These heirloom sesame seeds from Daphnis and Chloe come from the Evros region in northeastern Greece, where sesame has been cultivated since at least 300 BC. Passed down through generations, this local variety is grown by a handful of farmers who continue to follow time-honored, non-mechanic methods.

Each autumn (September), just before ripening, the tall sesame stalks are gently uprooted and bound into conical bundles to dry in the open air. Once the pods begin to split naturally, the seeds are released at the lightest touch. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, with great care taken at every step—from sorting to washing and drying.

Thanks to Daphnis and Chloe’s collaboration with small-scale growers and their dedication to preserving culinary heritage, this ancient seed continues to be cultivated with the same care and respect as centuries ago.
