This whole-leaf Lemon Verbena from Daphnis and Chloe is sourced from a small herb farm in Crete, where the leaves are hand-harvested at the start of summer—just as the plant reaches its aromatic peak. After harvesting, the leaves are naturally dried in the shade and gently destemmed by hand to preserve their vivid green color and essential oils.

Although native to South America, Verbena has adapted beautifully to the climate of the Eastern Aegean. Since arriving in Europe in the 17th century, it has become a beloved staple in Cretan gardens and kitchens alike. The region’s sun, soil, and gentle breezes bring out the best of this zesty, fragrant herb.

For a soothing herbal tea, steep 1 tsp (approx. 0.3 g) of leaves per 250 ml cup at 95 °C for 4–5 minutes, covered. Strain and enjoy warm—or let cool for a refreshing iced version on hot days.
